Christian Horner was moved on at Red Bull Racing as CEO and team principal, his replacement in both functions, Laurent Mekies, now sheds light on the team's leadership disclosing the reasons behind the shake up.
It has been a matter of speculation since the moment the decision was announced. Why was Horner fired from Red Bull Racing?
Whilst many have opined that it was due to the lack of sporting success, or the internal strife that came about since a scandal accusing Horner of inappropriate behaviour erupted more than a year ago, or the exodus of key Red Bull figures like Adrian Newey and Jonathan Wheatley, the Austrian team's leadership has given no clear reason as for Horner's dismissal.
Speaking to media including GPblog, Mekies was asked if the reasons behind the sacking of the Briton who'd been at the helm of Red Bull had been disclosed to him.
"The short answer is no, they haven't," the Frenchman said. "We didn't get into the why and the why now."

Mekies was only given targets for the team's future

The new CEO and team principal at Red Bull Racing, though has been given what the targets for the team are. "They outlined the sort of objectives they had for the team moving forward."
The Austrian racing team has indeed been caught and surpassed by their rivals McLaren. On top of that GPblog does understand that Red Bull Racing has been engulfed in turmoil for more than a year, and harmony within the squad was outlined as one of the conditions necessary for Max Verstappen to remain in the team.
Whether the targets are only of a sporting nature, or if they have a broader reach, it is not yet known.
Mekies did respond to the speculation that pointed to team members and staff at the factory being disgruntled at Horner's removal from the team. You can read his comments on the rumours here.
