Sergio Perez is keen on making an F1 comeback, but for the mexican driver, this would only make sense if the project matched his lofty ambitions.
When Perez was signed by Red Bull Racing, there was hope that his experience could brige the gap Max Verstappen had on his former teammates.
This desire never materialised as the Mexican driver could often be seen fighting for significantly lower positions in the order than the Dutchman. At the end of the 2024 season, Red Bull decided to rid him of a drive and take a chance on their own talent pool.
A decision that is yet to yield its fruits with Liam Lawson demoted to Racing Bulls after two Grand Prix and Yuki Tsunoda still to come to terms with the complex RB21.

Perez wants an F1 project with ambition ahead of potential comeback

Speaking at the "Festival of Ideas", Perez spoke regarding his future as a professional racing driver and stated his reasons for wanting to come back to F1.
“I don't know what will happen in the future. I'm aware that I haven't ended my career as I would like and as my entire country deserves, and that's something very important to me."
"But I'm also aware that if we return, since we've done everything in Formula 1, then we have to return to a very important project, to something that motivates us.”
Perez is understood to be in talks with Cadillac for a drive in 2026. However, this is not the only team that could want him, as rumours have surfaced that Alpine may also be in line to snatch the Mexican talent.
