A remarkable rumour circulated earlier this week. Sergio Perez was reportedly planning to announce his retirement, and thus his departure from Red Bull Racing, during the weekend of his home race, the Mexican Grand Prix. The rumour was quickly debunked by Red Bull, but now Perez himself has also responded to the reports.

Perez responds to retirement rumour

In a Zoom session, footage of which was shared on X (formerly Twitter), Perez confronts the rumours. These are also debunked by the Mexican Formula 1 driver.
"I have a contract for next year," Perez began. However, he does acknowledge the importance of coming out strong in 2024, knowing that his seat will become vacant after next year. "It is important to have a good year. I am motivated to continue."
So, the Red Bull driver is not thinking about an early retirement just yet. Not by a long shot even: "I want to continue for more years, because I think I still have a lot to give in Formula 1. I want to stay in F1 for at least another 3-4 years," Perez said.
