Force India's Sergio Perez has said that he thinks that his team might have reached its ceiling, after two years of the Indian team finishing fourth in the championship.
The team famously operate on one of the smallest budgets in the Formula One, and somehow still managed to finish fourth in the constructors' championship in consecutive years, only allowing the Big Three teams in front of them.
Sergio Perez has personally witnessed this rise, as he's been part of the team since 2014. The Mexican knows all too well who to thank for that success.
"The team has developed massively," he told Motorsport.com.
"Force India is one of the strongest teams in F1 and that's thanks to people like Otmar [Szafnauer] and Andy Green, they're very good at what they do."
"There are more people to thank, but I won't name because other teams will know who they are!"
Perez realises that maintaining fourth place this year will be tougher than ever, as teams like Haas, McLaren and Renault have significantly improved this year. In Australia Perez finished eleventh, just outside of the points.
"The only thing this team doesn't have is a budget - our possibilities are limited."
"Everything we do is so important because of our budget, and increasing that budget is our next step; we have promising things ahead in the future."
The Mexican likely talks about team ownership when he says that because team owners Vijay Mallya and Subrata Roy Sahara are in legal trouble in their home country of India. A switch in ownership would be welcomed in the team, who'll want to show the world what they're capable of if they had a reasonable operating budget.
"We don't know what our future in F1 will bring," Perez ominously concluded.
