Perez faces big challenge at Red Bull: 'Verstappen is the fastest in F1'

Sergio Perez was saved from a farewell to Formula One just before the end of 2020. In 2021, the Mexican will replace Alexander Albon at Red Bull Racing. There he will drive alongside Max Verstappen. There are not many drivers who can hold their own alongside the Dutchman. Perez thus faces a considerable challenge.

Max Verstappen has an excellent list of statistics at Red Bull. For years, people hope that the Dutchman will have the equipment to become world champion. In his hunt for the title, Verstappen has destroyed teammates Pierre Gasly and Alexander Albon.

It is the experienced Sergio Perez' turn who comes over from Racing Point to fight for victories with Red Bull. Speaking on the Red Bull podcast Talking Bull, the Mexican discussed the danger of his new teammate: "I think Max is one of the fastest, if not the fastest, drivers in Formula 1. So it's quite a challenge. It's very exciting."

The excitement Perez feels is not unjustified. However, the Mexican's experience can help him stay strong alongside Verstappen's sometimes stunning performances.

Perez continues: "You want to race against him and you can only show your worth in comparison to him in the same car. I'm looking forward to it. I will be able to say after five races how fast Max really is. I don't know right now, but I'm sure he's mega fast."
