Ayrton Senna won the 1993 European Grand Prix which took place at Donington Park in Leicestershire on the 11th April. The race is renowned as one of Senna’s best victories as he passed four drivers on the first lap in the wet and set a usual fastest lap.
The four drivers included; Michael Schumacher, Karl Wendlinger, Damon Hill and Alain Prost.
The track had started to dry out, after the rain was persistent at the start of the Grand Prix, triggering all cars to pit.
In typical British weather style, it wasn’t long until the rain came back. Most drivers, including the dominant William’s drivers, pitted for wets.
But Senna stayed out.
This proved to be the correct decision as it wasn’t long before the rain halted once more.
On lap 57, Senna demonstrated his skills once again to produce his 19th and final fastest lap of his career.
As usual with Senna, this wasn’t a ‘bog standard’ fastest lap.
On the fastest lap, Senna drove into the pit lane but didn’t stop in his pit box making it the only ever fastest lap in the history of modern F1, to use the pit lane.
