0.618s was the gap Lando Norris fell to Oscar Piastri by, a difference the British driver does not mention, and in fact downplays in his post qualifying reaction.
Reacting to the sprint qualifying, Norris was quick to acknowledge that his efforts had not been enough to match, let alone best, Piastri's in SQ3.
"Not quick enough I guess. It wasn't the cleanest of laps, but still quite a big gap to the top," said Norris recognising the large delt to his teammate.

Norris downplays sprint qualifying defeat

The Briton then made the argument that the contest however, counted merely for the short race tomorrow morning. "Not too disappointed, it's just for the Sprint, so not the biggest worry," before stating there was still some work to be done the rest of the weekend in his side of the McLaren garage.
"It's only Friday, so I'm not too fussed. Not the happiest of course but I just need to do some more work tonight, that's all," Norris concluded.
The battle for the world championship is between both teammates who are separated by an 8-point margin. Despite Norris downplaying the situation, even a single point can determine who emerges as champion in Abu Dhabi. Niki Lauda won his final world title by a half a point after all.
