The new Formula 1 season has not started yet, but the teams are already thinking about next year. In 2022, major rule changes will be implemented, which everyone wants to be well prepared for.
That also applies to Mercedes. James Allison explains in a video on the team's YouTube channel how Mercedes is working on this.

New generation cars

"What we have seen in recent years will be over at the end of this year. Instead, there will be a new generation of cars with different technical goals. This should make racing more exciting because the car at the front has less influence on the performance of the cars behind it," says Allison.
He continues: "The changes are so drastic that we will be devoting a large part of our technical resources to preparation this year. Our goal is to have a good car that puts us in a good position from 2022."

"That means working on everything within the budget, even before the first race of the 2021 season. We have to allocate our resources so that we have a good season this year, but at the same time we have to work on the future and prepare for the new regulations in 2022," Allison said.
