Mercedes celebrates milestone with unique Hungarian GP safety car livery

Marking 30 years since Mercedes first served as Formula 1's official safety car at the 1996 French Grand Prix, the Mercedes-AMG GT Black Series will run with a bespoke livery throughout the Hungarian Grand Prix weekend. Instead of the familiar all-red finish, the car features a striking combination of red and black graphics, with black dominating the front section and bonnet.

The anniversary livery is further highlighted by a prominent '30' emblem in white lettering, positioned both at the base of the windscreen and on the doors. The graphics serve as a tribute to the milestone, celebrating three decades since Mercedes first took on the role of Formula 1's official safety car.

To mark the occasion, a photoshoot was also held on the Hungaroring's main straight, featuring several of the Mercedes safety cars that have accompanied Formula 1 Grands Prix over the past 30 years. Mercedes works drivers Kimi Antonelli and George Russell also took part, posing alongside the cars to celebrate the milestone.

The Hungarian Grand Prix marks Formula 1's final stop before the summer break, giving teams one last opportunity to head into the holidays on a high. Unlike previous editions that have been heavily influenced by unpredictable weather, this year's forecast points towards a predominantly dry and increasingly hot weekend at the Hungaroring.

According to The Weather Channel, Friday is expected to remain dry, with just a 4% chance of rain. Temperatures will reach a high of 24°C under mainly sunny skies, although a few clouds are expected to develop during the afternoon. A north-northwesterly wind of 15 to 30 km/h is also forecast. Conditions are set to become warmer on Saturday, with temperatures rising to around 28°C. The weather will remain largely sunny, with only a few afternoon clouds expected. The chance of rain drops to just 2%, while southwesterly winds of 10 to 15 km/h are forecast.

Sunday, when the Grand Prix takes place, is expected to be the hottest day of the weekend. Temperatures are forecast to peak at 31°C, with sunshine and scattered clouds throughout the day. While the chance of rain increases slightly to 13%, dry conditions are still expected to prevail, accompanied by southerly winds of 15 to 30 km/h.
