McLaren has once again extended its lead in the battle for the constructors' championship. However, the competition remains fierce for 2nd place and for the 'best of the rest' spot behind the top teams.
In Hungary, McLaren scored the maximum and highest amount of points, 43, raising its total to 559 points. This puts them 299 points ahead of second-place Ferrari - who are currently at 260 points. Although Mercedes is gaining ground. Toto Wolff's team stands at 236 points and, thanks to a good result from George Russell, scored more points than Ferrari.
Red Bull Racing is increasingly coming to look like an island in the championship. Mercedes and Ferrari are moving increasingly far away, while the gap to the other teams is too large. In Hungary, Red Bull barely scored two points, still not crossing the threshold of 200 points.
The competition continues to be riveting behind them. Williams still holds fifth place, but after the zero points scored in Hungary, Aston Martin is closing in. With Fernando Alonso and Lance Stroll in points, the British team has surged to 52 points. This puts them one point ahead of Sauber, who also managed to gather 8 points in Hungary.
Racing Bulls also scored a handful of points, maintaining its connection to Aston Martin and Sauber. The same cannot be said for Haas and Alpine. They lag far behind, but in the midfield, one good result could already lead to a big leap in the rankings.
