McLaren are set to continue upgrading their car for the remaining few races on the calendar. The midfield team are comfortably 'best of the rest' but don't want to take any chances so are ensuring that their package is as fast as possible. Many teams have already switched their focus to next season and the fact that McLaren are still focusing on this year may seem strange to some.
McLaren boss Andreas Seidl believes that if they continue working on this year's car it will help development for next season. The rules for 2020 are very much the same as this year and therefore they can take what works and continue it next year.
"As we have seen in the last three or four races, we now clearly have the fourth-best car and I think we have everything in our power to secure that position at the end of the season," Seidl said to Motorsport.com.
"That would be a great achievement as a team. But, in addition, it is important to continue evolving so that the car of next year will take the next step.
"So we continue to improve the car, and we continue to understand it better and better. In Japan, it worked really well and we will still get some small things for the next races. However, most of the team is completely in the background in 2020."

McLaren have improved dramatically and seem to be looking faster every race weekend. They will hope to continue to bridge the gap to the top three before too long and get back to the top of Formula 1 which is where they belong.
