McLaren: "Right now we’re still not where we want to be in Formula 1"

McLaren has expanded into the American IndyCar Series under new CEO Zak Brown. But for now, the team won't be participating in another racing class anytime soon. The team is still 'not where it wants to be' in F1 and IndyCar.
Despite McLaren occasionally being linked with a possible return to endurance racing, Brown says that's too soon. "We’re constantly reviewing other forms of motorsports," says Brown according to Motorsportweek.com. "We definitely will not go sports car racing in 2023."

Still not at desired level in F1 and IndyCar

According to Brown, the reason the new step is not yet being taken is quite simple: "Right now we’re still not where we want to be in Formula 1. We’re kind of halfway through our journey. We want to stay very focused on that."
The same goes for the IndyCar Series. As of 2020, Schmidt Peterson Motorsports will be known as Arrow McLaren SP. Although Patricio O'ward is showing very good results and even managed to win his first race in 2021, McLaren is not yet at the level where it wants to be here either.
