McLaren driver Alex Dunne had an outing to forget at the Formula 2 Italian Grand Prix Sprint race. The 19-year-old ended the race outside the points and with two pending visits to the stewards. The Rodin Motorsports driver, who began the Monza Sprint race in sixth place, quickly found himself under the crosshairs of the stewards just two laps into the race, following an incident involving Kush Maini.
The Irish driver forced the Alpine-backed driver into a spin and into the gravel as they battled wheel-to-wheel on the second lap at Curva Grande.
The incident, which ended Maini’s race, saw Dunne under investigation and subsequently a trip to the stewards following the conclusion of the session. However, things quickly spiralled into further chaos as he became involved in another incident with Sami Megetounif, which also led to a stewards’ visit.
The contact in turn one left Dunne with damage to his car, forcing him to salvage what was left of his race – he eventually finished 11th.
While the McLaren junior endured a torrid race, championship leader Leonardo Fornaroli further strengthened his grip on the title, claiming victory in the Sprint race ahead of Arvid Lindblad and Joshua Durksen.
