Nikita Mazepin still assumed in January this calendar year that he would drive in his home country Russia this coming weekend, but nothing could be further from the truth. The Russian invasion of Ukraine not only put a stop to the Grand Prix, but also forced him to leave Haas himself. In conversation with Ria Novosti he discusses his current situation.
According to the Russian driver, it is a shame that Formula 1 will not be hosted in Russia this year. The driver believes that the past shows that the Sochi Autodrom, as the circuit is called, is an excellent addition to the calendar. He, therefore, hopes that the race weekend will return soon.
"I remember that fantastic feeling when I was on the podium in Russia," he says. "It is a pity that drivers and spectators will not be able to experience it again soon. But the situation can change very quickly, both in a negative and positive sense. I hope for the best."

Mazepin sees NASCAR as future option

Mazepin does not rule out one day going down the same path as Daniil Kvyat. His compatriot chose to make his debut in NASCAR this year and continue his career there. For now, however, Mazepin thinks it is too early for himself to take this step and seems to remain hopeful for Formula 1.
