Ferrari is under a lot of scrutiny after the FIA investigated the legality of their engine. However, there are also more problems facing the team. Their speed for 2020. During preseason testing, the Italian team seemed a little off the pace and there is concern that once again they won't be competitive.
During the winter tests in Barcelona, everything indicated that the SF1000 is not fast enough. They themselves admitted it, although Mattia Binotto said that it's not all gloom and doom in a press conference last week at which GPblog.com attended.
“If you look at the entire winter test, I think we have a better race pace compared to the others," Binotto said. "That does not mean that we are the best there, but I think we have a relatively harder time in the simulation of the qualification than in the race simulations.
"We must try to understand that and analyze what we can do about it.”
Ferrari were strong in qualifying last season and appear to have traded this for race pace speed. It'll be interesting to see how things play out when the season starts in just over a weeks time.
