Max Verstappen successfully fought off the challenge of Charles Leclerc at the start of the Singapore Grand Prix to keep the lead.
The Ferrari driver, starting second, appeared to get the better start than the polesitter, but the Dutchman was just able to keep the Monegasque driver behind with some late braking into the opening corner.
Lewis Hamilton, who started third, could not get the start he wanted and had to watch the battle between the top two drivers. There was also no change in the following positions involving Kimi Antonelli, Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri.
George Russell, who started 19th, after a 60 place grid penalty, was able to get past the two Cadillacs to move into P17 by the end of the opening lap.
