Max Verstappen bagged a P2 in Spa for the Sprint race, which puts him in the middle of both McLarens with Oscar Piastri in P1 and Lando Norris in P3. Red Bull chief advisor now reveals what the Dutchman's target for the short 100km race is.
Not McLaren as a whole, as Verstappen managed to get the edge on Norris, but Piastri stood out above the rest. "The gap is only four tenths in sector 2," said Red Bull's top advisor Helmut Marko in an interview with the German branch of Sky.
However, Red Bull's efforts have come up short in Spa, the Austrian observes.
"But it's still too little to be able to challenge Piastri here. So I think we'll be well served in the sprint if we achieve a podium."

Where is Red Bull's Achilles heel in Spa?

"It's simply downforce," Marko answers on what Red Bull lacks with respects to McLaren.
The downforce-top speed balance to increase the opportunity of a good result, Marko believes, has been chosen rightly by the Austrian team.
"If we add more downforce, then we lose too much on the straights, especially in sectors 1 and 3. And you just have to find a compromise."
"But Piastri in particular is incredible. It's not just us who get it, everyone gets it. And for a sector, that's quite a lot."
