Helmet Marko and Aston Martin Red Bull Racing didn't want the Australian Grand Prix to be cancelled. The 76-year-old admits his team "just wanted to drive". F1 made the announcement just a couple of hours before cars were due on track for the first practice session of the 2020 season.
"We just wanted to drive. Others also, but they no longer had an engine," Marko tells Motorsport-Magazin. With Mercedes and Ferrari both walking away, none of the engine customer teams for those two manufacturers would have been able to race.

Red Bull wants to race

Gunther Steiner confirms this in conversation with the same outlet. "We would have loved to ride and the atmosphere was great on the paddock. Everyone respects each other's decision because everyone is in a different position," Haas ' team boss is much more level-headed. Marko is irritated by his colleagues in that regard.
"We could have raced, but it was cancelled because some people had suddenly changed their mind," said Marko.
