Leclerc warned: 'He's basically an engineer in the car'

Former world champion Jenson Button believes that Charles Leclerc will have to be wary of new teammate Carlos Sainz. Leclerc still seems to be faster than Sainz for the time being, but according to Button that could change.

Sainz made the switch from McLaren to Ferrari last winter. During his two years at McLaren, the Spaniard achieved many good results including two podiums. He was also crucial in the battle for third place of the Constructors, which McLaren eventually won in the last race of 2020.

"I think Carlos will get closer to Leclerc very soon," Button told Sky Sports F1. "I spoke to the McLaren engineers and they told me the Spanish driver is basically an engineer. He has a very intelligent approach and works closely with the team for many hours."

In addition, Button also knows that Sainz is a driver who can keep his emotions to himself and would not drive over the top. "He’s a great guy and Ferrari can boast of having a great pair of drivers," Button concluded.
