Robert Kubica returned to the Formula 1 starting grid at the Australian Grand Prix at the weekend and the Polish driver has been reflecting on his comeback following eight years out of the cockpit after his tragic rally accident.
Kubica finished 17th in Melbourne, last of the racers that completed the race even being beaten by his teammate and rookie George Russell. Although he finished well off the pace his return was seen as an achievement in itself despite the obvious critics on his lack of pace.
The Polish driver reflected on his performance in an interview with Autosport and admitted he enjoyed it despite the mixed race.
“Even if I struggled here [in Australia], I still enjoyed it, which is a big difference compared to long time ago.
“I am not an emotional guy but after the race, it felt like a great achievement,” said Kubica.

His return was his first F1 race since his near-fatal crash at the first stage of the Ronde di Andora rally. The Pole revealed he’s just trying to do his best, surrounded by doubters.
“The only thing I can do is try to do my job the best I can, and try to leave all the grand prix with positives and negatives,” he added
