Looking back at the magisterial victory of his son in Monaco, as well as the fact that he leads the championship for the first time, Jos Verstappen states that he never doubted the victory, but that seeing the black and white chequered flag did not leave him unmoved.
In conversation with the Dutch Formula 1 Magazine Verstappen Sr. looks back on seeing his son's victory as follows: " I had goosebumps when Max crossed the finish line."
"Monaco is of course a special race, very special," continued the Dutchman. "I knew it was going to happen, because Max is almost always good on street circuits."

Absent from the track

Despite being present earlier in the week, Jos Verstappen could not be there in person during the Grand Prix. Nevertheless he did have contact with his son prior to the start, as is usual between the two: "We discuss things every day. I also spoke to him just before the start of the race: then it is mainly about strategy and Max tells me what they are going to do."
