The Circuit de Catalunya, setting to many epic F1 battlesand grand wins, may be in danger of falling out of the F1 calendar in the near future.
Ayrton Senna battling Nigel Mansell in 1991,the first edition of the Spanish Grand Prix to be held at the track, Michael Schumacher's first ever win with Ferrari in the the pouring rain in 1996,and Max Verstappen's maiden F1 win as Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg took each other out in a first lap tussle gone too far.
These are but a few of the iconic moments this track has provided for F1 fans throughout the world. Nostalgia may also be creeping in since for a long time it was used as the testing ground ahead of the start of each F1 season.

The Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya could be dropped from the F1 calendar

With the arrival of the new circuit in Madrid in 2026, the race in Barcelona willno longer be called the Spanish Grand Prix, which will now fall onto the race in Madrid.
Spanish newspaper Marca emphasizes that this could mean the track where Verstappen won his first victory may disappear from Formula 1 after 2026.
The track is currently making an effort to make the location of the track more fan/friendly by improving the entertainment provided to attendees, as well as facilitating wys of transportation to reach the venue.
It's becoming increasingly difficult for F1 circuits to maintain a permanent spot on the calendar. For example, it was revealed earlier this year that the iconic Spa-Francorchamps will be rotated after 2026 with other circuits.
The situation for the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya post-2026 remains unclear, but perhaps a rotation approach may also prove to be the only way for this track to keep its spot on an already packed and more importantly, increasingly coveted calendar.
