"I completely rule out Bottas causing the crash on purpose"

According to Ralf Schumacher the crash of Valtteri Bottas was not intentional. The unfortunate Finn braked in the first corner of the Hungarian Grand Prix and hit the two cars of Red Bull Racing.

Mercedes team boss Toto Wolff still wanted to apologise to Red Bull team boss Christian Horner, but the Briton did not accept. "From this, you can see how tense the situation is between the two teams. The anger of Red Bull is understandable, even if it was not intentional on Bottas' part," Schumacher told the German branch of Sky Sports.

Both Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez initially got away well at the Hungaroring. The crash with Bottas caused Perez to drop out and Verstappen had to finish the race with a badly damaged car. "Max could have been competing for the win in Hungary, so it's unfortunate and annoying for him," Schumacher continued.

But according to Schumacher, there was certainly no intent: "I completely rule out that Bottas caused the crash on purpose. He is currently fighting for a cockpit in Formula 1 and was totally dejected himself," explained the former Williams driver.

And by fighting for a seat in Formula 1, Schumacher does not mean for a seat at his current team. "I believe the Mercedes chapter is over and I imagine he is currently negotiating with Williams or Alfa Romeo. A fatal mistake like that doesn't help, and he knows that."
