Kick Sauber team principal Jonathan Wheatley has paid tribute to Christian Horner following his dismissal from the Red Bull Racing outfit.
The 58-year-old, who served as Sporting Director during his stint at the Milton Keynes outfit, took time to praise the former team boss during the Belgian Grand Prix weekend.
Sharing his thoughts with the media, including GP Blog, following the Free Practice session at the Spa-Francorchamps circuit, Wheatley said:
“Well, I'd like to start by saying—look at what Christian achieved in that team. Look at what the team that he was part of achieved over the last 20 years."
"I had a fantastic time in Milton Keynes. I have a slightly more scenic drive to work now, but I know the strength and depth of the people there. And I know the task that Laurent's taken on is going to be exciting for him. I want to say that on a personal level.”

Wheatley welcomes Mekies’ appointment at Red Bull

Jonathan Wheatley went on to offer his support for Laurent Mekies, who was appointed as one of Christian Horner’s successors. The Kick Sauber boss expressed his delight at seeing his former colleagues given new opportunities.
“I wish Christian absolutely the very best in the future, but also, that two really good friends of mine—gentlemen sat to my right here, Laurent and also Alan Permane—that it’s provided opportunities in their careers and their career development.”
“And honestly, out of everything comes something hugely positive. And I'm just really, really pleased for Laurent and Alan.”
