As the Formula 1 world continues to come to terms with the dismissal of Christian Horner as Red Bull Racing team principal, Liam Lawson has shared his reaction to the news.
Speaking to the media, including GP Blog, during the Belgian Grand Prix weekend, the New Zealand driver revealed he learned about Horner’s departure at the same time as everyone else in the paddock.
“Probably the same as everybody else in the media. So, yeah, I don't remember when it was announced, but I found out basically afterwards.”
Lawson, who was part of the Red Bull Racing outfit for the first two races of the 2025 season, detailed that he was taken aback by the dismissal of the long-serving team boss.
“Yes, I would say it wasn't something we expected. But things obviously change in Formula 1, and as I said before, I think for me, yes, it was surprising having these changes, but it doesn't really change too much from my point of view of what I'm trying to achieve and what I'm working on.”
When asked further if he had the chance to speak with the 51-year-old since his dismissal, Lawson stated:
“Yes, just over text briefly. So, yeah.”

Lawson speaks on Laurent Mekies replacing Horner at Red Bull

Liam Lawson also weighed in on Laurent Mekies replacing Christian Horner at Red Bull Racing. The Kiwi native, who was full of praise for his former team boss, detailed that the new team principal would be highly beneficial to the Milton Keynes outfit.
“I mean, it's... Honestly, at this point, it's hard to say. I think for the team, having somebody like Laurent coming in is great. Laurent is somebody who has done amazing things for our team, and he's somebody I've really enjoyed working with. I think he brings a lot with him to Red Bull Racing.”
Mekies was promoted from the Racing Bulls outfit, where he had served as team principal, to replace Horner following his dismissal. The 48-year-old also previously served as race director at Ferrari.
