Horner on competition: 'Last year wasn't normal either'

Red Bull team principal Christian Horner is confident of a successful 2024. The Briton let this be known at the Goodwood Festival of Speed. Horner is, however, wary of the oncoming competition from McLaren, Mercedes and Ferrari.
Last year, Red Bull and Max Verstappen were more dominant than dominant. The Dutchman took no fewer than 19 victories and both the drivers' and constructors' titles were secured well before the end of the season. This year has proved very different. Red Bull, Ferrari, McLaren and Mercedes all managed to win a Grand Prix in 2024.
"What we performed last season was also not normal," Horner told the festival. "This year we will be pushed more by the competitors. We will have to perform above our capabilities. We are now halfway through the year and are still on top in both championships. We look forward to extending that lead in the coming races," Horner added.
Verstappen is still well ahead of Lando Norris with a lead of 84 points. The gap between Red Bull and McLaren among the constructors is 71 points. Next weekend, the Hungarian Grand Prix is scheduled.
