Imola is among the leading candidates to replace the Qatar and Abu Dhabi Grands Prix if necessary, GPblog understands.
Due to the ongoing conflict in the Middle East, GPblog previously reported that plans to reintroduce the Bahrain Grand Prix had been scrapped.
A few weeks ago it appeared that a race in Sakhir would still take place in October, in between the Azerbaijan and Singapore Grands Prix. However, due to the further escalation of the conflict between the United States and Iran, that scenario is now ruled out. Formula 1 currently considers it irresponsible to give the definitive green light for a race in Bahrain
The Sepang track in Malaysia is now also being considered as an alternative to host a race during the first weekend of October.

The continuation of the conflict in the region could also put the Qatar and Abu Dhabi Grands Prix at risk. Formula 1 wants to delay making a final decision for as long as possible.
The US travel advisory map is also taken into account. At present, both Qatar and the United Arab Emirates are listed under the "Reconsider Travel" advisory.
The Imola circuit in Italy is among the leading candidates to host a season finale, GPblog understands. The track featured on the Formula 1 calendar from 2020 to 2025, although the 2023 edition had to be cancelled due to flooding in the region.
Based on the calendar, the track has no other events scheduled for December either. The final one, the Imola Classic, is scheduled for the third weekend of October.
The Portuguese Grand Prix in Portimao is also an option, this website previously reported. Formula 1 is set to return to the circuit next year, but prior to the upcoming edition of the Portuguese Grand Prix, the circuit presumably wants to implement some improvements first.
