Helmut Marko says that Alpha Tauri are more of a sister team to Red Bull Racing in 2020, rather than the junior team that Toro Rosso was before. Toro Rosso served as a feeder team for Red Bull, with six drivers making the move between the teams since Sebastian Vettel became the first to do so in 2009.
Toro Rosso scored two podiums in 2019 as they finished P6 in 2019, edging out Racing Point, and they are looking to break into the top five in 2020. This will be harder than expected, given the congested nature of F1's midfield.
Marko wants Alpha Tauri to be on more of a level playing field with the senior team, and he told Motorsport-Magazin: “With this name change and all this publicity and the funds going into promotion, the demand [for resources] has clearly increased.
“There is a transformation and an upgrading from junior to sister team. Everything that is permitted and as far as our capacities are sufficient is [also provided] at AlphaTauri.”
