Marko confirms conversation with Perez after driver swap at Red Bull

Helmut Marko did have a phone call with Sergio Perez recently. The Austrian top advisor did confirm that, however, the subject was not the one people would have in mind given the recent driver change at Red Bull.

"Yes," Marko answered to Formel1.de when he was asked about whether the Mexican driver had called him. "We talked about tequila." When the interviewer suggested that Perez may have sounded satisfied after Liam Lawson was replaced two weekends into the season, the Austrian continued about Perez's involvement in a tequila company. Is there a bottle already on the way. "Not yet, but he said it is coming in Mexico," Marko laughed.

Then, the top advisor was asked about the end of the 2020 season, when the team decided to replace Alexander Albon, they chose Sergio Perez. However, many rumours also about Nico Hülkenberg getting linked to the team. Did Marko ever regret their choice to sign the Mexican?

"Back then, Sergio Perez won his first Grand Prix. It was exactly during that period that the decisions were made. The majority chose Perez then," he explained, referring to the driver winning the 2020 Sakhir GP.

As for Perez, a return to F1 is not completely ruled out. Among other things, he is mentioned as a possible candidate to have a seat at Cadillac's new team, but they are far from the only party interested. The Mexican indicated that he will have six months to decide his next step in his career.
