Nicolas Hamilton shared a heartfelt post on social media after joining his brother Lewis on track at Fiorano in a Ferrari's three-seater Formula 1 car. The seven-time world champion's brother, who competes in adapted machinery due to cerebral palsy and last month achieved a huge milestone in his career by securing
his first BTCC podium as well as victory in the Jack Sears Trophy classification, had the honour of sharing the track with Lewis for the first time, albeit as a passenger, as his brother powered around Fiorano in a V10-powered car.
Taking to social media after the experience, Nicolas revealed that Lewis had invited him to ride as a passenger in Ferrari's three-seater Formula 1 car. After travelling to Fiorano, he became the first person to climb into the car and described the experience of sitting just behind his brother's right shoulder after years of watching him from the garage as a surreal and unforgettable moment.
"Lewis called and offered me the opportunity of a lifetime. To be a passenger in a three-seater Ferrari Formula One car, with him driving! I flew out to Fiorano and was the first in the car. I could not believe it! The craziest moment was that I have been standing behind Lewis’ F1 car in the garage for years, but this time, I found myself lowering myself into the car, just behind his right shoulder. It was a very surreal moment." Reflecting on the run, Nicolas admitted he was immediately struck by the sound and speed of the 2005 V10-powered car before simply enjoying the moment of watching Lewis drive. Having followed his brother's career from childhood through karting and all the way to Formula 1, he said the experience finally gave him a true understanding of what decades of hard work had led to, adding that, despite being family, he has always been Lewis' biggest supporter and continues to admire his talent.
"The car was from 2005 with a V10 engine. As the run started, I was just blown away by the sound and the speed, but I quickly found myself going into ‘proud brother mode’, where I just watched Lewis drive. After being a part of his career for 34 years, being at every circuit with him as a kid, through karting, all the way to Formula One, I finally got to experience what all the hard work was for and what it felt like to be him. Even though he is my brother, I am also a fan, his No. 1 fan and in awe of his talent."
Nicolas concluded by saying that, despite Lewis being his brother, he had the unique opportunity to be driven around Ferrari's test track in a Ferrari Formula 1 car by the best driver of this generation, describing it as a huge honour and privilege that will remain an unforgettable memory: "Even though he is my brother, I got to experience being driven in a Ferrari Formula One car at the Ferrari F1 test track by the best driver of this generation. What an honour and a privilege. A day and a moment that I will never forget."
