Whereas Lewis Hamilton said during the winter test in Barcelona that Mercedes makes no mistakes, those words seem to have backfired two months later. After his disappointing race in Imola, the current number seven in the championship was not too shy to admit that his statements were perhaps a bit premature.
After the race, he cited his claims himself. Responding to the question of what happens if his team goes in the wrong direction, the Mercedes driver replied, "We don't make mistakes." He returned to that statement after his disappointing thirteenth place finish in Imola, albeit cautiously.

Hamilton returns to statements

"I said we don't get things wrong, but the fact is, with all the possibilities out there, we may have," Hamilton acknowledged to Sky Sports. The extent to which Mercedes has gone in the wrong direction became painfully clear when the Briton was lapped by his 2021 rival, Max Verstappen.
The disappointing result in Imola led team boss Toto Wolff to apologize to Hamilton via the onboard radio "for the car he had to drive. In contrast, the team boss stressed that there was certainly potential in the W13, which was proven by George Russell's surprising fourth place.
