“Oh yes, the momentum at the end of the season was incredibly strong. We hadn’t benefited from any upgrades to the car, but we managed to squeeze some performance out. It was one of my strongest years.”
The 2021 campaign saw Hamilton locked in a title fight with
Red Bull Racing driver
Max Verstappen. The championship battle ultimately went down to the final race of the season in Abu Dhabi, where Verstappen beat Hamilton to the Drivers’ title following a late safety car incident.

Hamilton also offered a thoughtful response when asked about which Formula 1 driver he was most proud of defeating. The Scuderia
Ferrari driver expressed deep respect for his competitors, emphasising the sacrifices each driver makes in pursuit of success.
“I don’t think like that. I admire each of these competitors. I put myself in their shoes; they’ve made enormous sacrifices. In the end, someone wins and someone loses. I know the pain they must have gone through after those defeats,” Hamilton said.
Hamilton boasts the record for the most Formula 1 title wins – seven – a record he jointly shares with Michael Schumacher. His career so far has seen him go head-to-head with several elite competitors, including Fernando Alonso and Sebastian Vettel.
