Haas Formula 1 team principal Ayao Komatsu has praised James Hinchcliffe following his outing with the team during a test session at the Mugello circuit. “It was really nice for somebody like him to get in our car.”
- Ayao KomatsuSpeaking to the media during the Singapore Grand Prix, Komatsu revealed he was impressed with how the former IndyCar driver handled the tricky conditions.
“It was very tricky conditions when he got in the car. He did it well, he had one run with slick tyres, and he really enjoyed it,” Komatsu said.
“It was really nice for somebody like him to get in our car to understand exactly what the current-generation Formula 1 car feels like.”
Hinchcliffe driving Haas VF-23 in Mugello - Haas F1 team
Hinchcliffe was part of the recent TPC (Testing of Previous Car) programme held by the Haas outfit in Mugello. The IndyCar race winner, alongside
Romain Grosjean, took part in testing the VF-23 car for the American team.
The Canadian driver appeared to relish his maiden run in a Formula 1 car, and he also expressed his feelings after completing his test at the Italian circuit.
Hinchcliffe on driving an F1 car
Reflecting on his outing, Hinchcliffe admitted he was left speechless he getting behind the wheel of the
F1 car. The 38-year-old also expressed his gratitude to the team for allowing him the opportunity to try out the modern machinery.
Since retiring from IndyCar in 2021, Hinchliffe has transitioned into motorsports punditry. He also described how he had the privilege of testing the VF-23 in dry conditions, stating that such an experience cannot be measured in monetary value.
