Formula 1 mocked again over new rules in savage social media swipe

Even in Japan, despite the FIA reducing the maximum energy recharge in qualifying from 9 to 8 MJ, a significant level of super clipping was still evident - at times becoming dangerous, as shown by Oliver Bearman’s crash during the race.

The Briton suddenly found himself approaching Franco Colapinto’s much slower Alpine, and in attempting to move left to avoid it, he lost control of his Haas and slammed into the barriers at very high speed, fortunately without serious consequences.

In a post shared on its official X page, the Asian GT series also took a swipe at Formula 1, posting the following jab: "2026. No Battery management. Or clipping (whatever that is). Just straight up pure racing."

Former technical director Gary Anderson said the FIA must take a share of the responsibility for Bearman’s 190mph (around 305 km/h) crash at the Japanese Grand Prix, describing it as an incident that had been inevitable since the introduction of the 2026 regulations.

He criticised a system that allows cars on the same stretch of track to run at vastly different speeds, arguing it is fundamentally flawed and creates the conditions for avoidable accidents.

In his view, similar situations are bound to happen again, warning that if one were to occur during heavy overtaking into Turn 1, the consequences could resemble a major aviation disaster, with potentially fatal outcomes.
