Jody Scheckter has described Charles Leclerc as the "Roger Federer of Formula 1." Scheckter won the driver's championship with Ferrari in 1979 and the South African is hopeful that Leclerc can emulate his success.
"It is funny. I have never looked at a driver where I thought, "Wow!" Not even when I was racing or afterward, but Leclerc is the first driver where that thought occurred to me," Scheckter said to RaceFans.
“It's really true and, I hate to say this, I almost feel an affection for that boy. He is always so calm, it seems that he is a very nice guy and he is very talented. But the unusual thing is: how does such a boy come from Monaco?"
The former Formula 1 driver also sees similarities with another athlete in Leclerc. "I see him as the Roger Federer of Formula 1. Hopefully, he can get the same results."
Federer is one of the greatest tennis players of all time and has won 20 singles Grand Slams. It will be a great achievement if Leclerc can become the Federer of Formula 1.
