Alpine have confirmed they have formally ended their professional relationship with Bruno Famin, following the Frenchman’s recent resignation from the team’s WEC programme.
Axel Plasse, VP Alpine Tech, will take over the responsibilities previously held by Famin while continuing to oversee the endurance programme, working closely with Team Principal Philippe Sinault and the wider Alpine Endurance Team.
In 2023, Famin was promoted to
F1 duties following Otmar Szafnauer’s departure, stepping in as Alpine’s interim Team Principal during a particularly turbulent period marked by internal reshuffles. He worked closely with the new structure introduced by Laurent Rossi, who was later replaced, helping guide the team through a crucial transition phase.
During his tenure across 2023 and 2024, Alpine underwent a significant internal reset, despite Famin was widely seen not as a long-term solution, but as a stabilising figure brought in to steady the ship. In August 2024, he stepped away from his operational role in
Formula 1 to move into the WEC programme.
Briatore shrugs off Mercedes stake concerns: '25% is a passenger'
Last weekend, the Italian manager revealed that the 24% stake held by Otro Capital — the group of investors that joined the team in 2023 — has drawn interest from several parties, with talks already underway and Mercedes among those involved in ongoing discussions.
Asked whether a potential Mercedes entry as a shareholder could impact the team’s operations or influence dynamics within bodies such as the F1 Commission, Briatore played down the significance.
He pointed out that similar structures have already existed on the grid for years, citing Red Bull as an example, and stressed that minority shareholders typically have limited influence, with decision-making power remaining firmly in the hands of the majority stakeholder.
