What effect will Friday's two-sessions have on this weekend?
With two different drivers topping the timesheets in today’s practice sessions, the rest of the weekend in Bahrain will be interesting.
In FP1, Red Bull’s Daniel Ricciardo was three-tenths faster than any other driver, finishing the session in P1 ahead of Valtteri Bottas and Kimi Raikkonen.
Championship favourites Sebastien Vettel and Lewis Hamilton finished fourth and fifth respectively.
The so-called ‘middle-ground’ of Formula One had a mixed session, with Haas drivers Romain Grosjean and Kevin Magnussen making the Top 10. The Top 10 was completed by Pierre Gasly’s Toro Rosso as well as Carlos Sainz and Nico Hulkenberg for Renault.
In FP2, the outcome was slightly different,
Ferrari dominated the timesheets, with Raikkonen and Vettel finishing in P1 and P2. The driver who will feel most disappointed in his performance in FP2 will be Daniel Ricciardo who finished behind both Mercedes and his teammate Max Verstappen.
Hulkenberg and Gasly continued their impressive pace from FP2, perhaps we will see the Frenchmen’s Toro Rosso in Q3 tomorrow.
In comparison, Gasly’s teammate Brendon Hartley finished bottom of the pile, hinting at another tough week for the Kiwi.
But at the front of the grid, it may well be a battle between the two Ferrari’s tomorrow for pole position, but Mercedes and Red Bull will be snapping at their heels.
