Ferrari CEO Benedetto Vigna addressed the recent rumours suggesting a possible split with Frederic Vasseur at the end of the season. In recent weeks, due to some Italian media reports, rumours have started circulating that Frederic Vasseur’s position at Ferrari is heavily at risk, with the Frenchman’s contract set to expire at the end of the season.
Rumors that had infuriated the Draveil native, who returned to lead the Ferrari team just last weekend at Silverstone after missing the previous Sunday’s race in Austria.
It's not about myself, I think, because this I can manage. It's more about the people of the team. To throw their name like this, I think it's just disrespectful for them, for the family. And we had the case last year with the chief of aero already."
"We had some other names this season. I don't know the target. I don't understand the target. Perhaps it's to give s*** to the team, but in this case I don't see the point. Perhaps it's for them the only way to exist. This is probably more the reason. But it's really hurting the team."
Ferrari CEO sets the record straight about Vasseur's rumors
Since then, the leadership of the Maranello team had avoided taking a stance on the matter, further fueling speculation among social media users and the press.
However, present at Silverstone during the past weekend, Ferrari CEO Benedetto Vigna finally broke his silence, addressing the issue in front of Sky Sport Italy’s microphones.
“It’s July, we have time,” said the Italian executive. “We are discussing. We’re with Fred. We just had lunch together.”
Speaking more generally about the Scuderia’s season so far, Vigna added:“We saw a great qualifying session. Let’s say the cars are starting to become more competitive. In the end, teams grow by facing challenges—and by facing them together. Because it’s true, there is strength in unity.”
“I like coming here and seeing the whole team united. There’s a lot of enthusiasm and energy. This team recharges me.”
