F1 Today | Hamilton calls for Ferrari talks as Verstappen reveals what he did after Zandvoort crash

Lewis Hamilton has called for Ferrari to review its race strategy after the seven-time Formula 1 world champion felt he missed out on a podium finish at the Dutch Grand Prix.

Hamilton crossed the line fourth at Zandvoort, behind Mercedes duo Kimi Antonelli and George Russell and race winner Lando Norris. The Ferrari driver spent part of the race behind team-mate Charles Leclerc and believed he had the pace to move ahead, but felt he lost time by the team not moving the Monegasque out of the way quicker.

Hamilton contrasted Ferrari's approach with that of Mercedes, pointing to the team's ability to execute decisions immediately while fighting at the front of the championship. Mercedes meanwhile ordered Russell to move aside for Antonelli towards the end of the race.

After his early retirement from the Dutch Grand Prix, Max Verstappen retreated to Red Bull Racing’s motorhome. The Dutchman stayed out of sight in the F1 paddock for a while, but according to him there was nothing unusual about that: he simply wanted to calmly watch the rest of the race.

He only appeared in front of Viaplay’s camera after the Grand Prix. There, Verstappen was asked why he hadn’t been seen for a while after his crash. “Yeah, I just wanted to watch the race for a bit. So I took some time for that,” he explains. The impact itself had no physical consequences for Verstappen. When asked if he was feeling anything after the accident, he replied briefly: “No.”

Verstappen then also discussed what went wrong coming out of the final corner. “I think it was too slippery. Somehow the car snapped and I couldn’t catch it. It snapped at a weird moment for me. Then I couldn’t catch it anymore,” Verstappen said.
