The board of the F1 is planning on re-paving a handful of circuits, as the idea is to apply a special layer of asphalt that would wear the tyres down quicker.
Of course, the effect of more tyre-wear would be to force teams to make more pit stops, which should make the races more interesting for the spectator. Liberty Media's Greg Maffei explained the idea to The Independent.
The initiative is a bit reminiscent of an idea that former Formula One boss Bernie Ecclestone once had. Ecclestone proposed to artificially make the circuits wet to spark more action on the track, but, surprise surprise, his idea didn't make it through.
Now it's up to sporting director
Ross Brawn to execute the plan, as there's also a concept ready to modify tracks to improve overtaking.
