F1 2025 vs 2026: Who's up and who's down by the summer break?

While Red Bull and McLaren were battling for the world title at this stage last season, the new regulations have propelled Mercedes back to the kind of dominance it enjoyed at the start of the hybrid era in 2014. The Silver Arrows have claimed eight wins from the opening 11 races, with Kimi Antonelli responsible for six of them and George Russell adding two.

The remaining victories have been shared by Ferrari, with one win each for Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc, while the most recent triumph came courtesy of reigning world champion Lando Norris, who returned to the top step of the podium at the Hungarian Grand Prix.

Compared to the summer break a year ago, Antonelli has enjoyed by far the biggest rise in the drivers' standings, climbing from seventh to first after emerging as Mercedes' title contender under the new regulations. Hamilton has also surged up the order, moving from sixth to second in his first season with Ferrari, while Leclerc has gained one place to sit fourth.

By contrast, last year's leading trio has slipped back, with Oscar Piastri dropping from first to seventh, Lando Norris from second to fifth and Max Verstappen from third to sixth. George Russell has remained among the frontrunners, improving from fourth to third, although he has scored significantly fewer points than his teammate so far this season.

The constructors' championship has also seen a major reshuffle at the top. Mercedes has surged from third to first under the new regulations, while Ferrari has held on to second despite increasing its points tally compared to the same stage last season.

McLaren, by contrast, has fallen from first to third after dominating the opening half of the 2025 campaign, while Red Bull has remained fourth. Further down the order, Racing Bulls and Alpine have made significant progress, climbing to fifth and sixth respectively, as Williams has dropped from fifth to ninth and Aston Martin from sixth to tenth.
