F1 Updated Standings | Antonelli extends championship lead after Russell nightmare start

Championship leader Antonelli, F1’s youngest ever at 19, has seen his points gap slightly extended following his P3 finish, while closest rival Lewis Hamilton crossed the line just behind him, but with a five-second penalty dropping him to P5, as the sport heads into the summer break.

Hamilton, the highest-placed non-Mercedes driver in the championship battle this season, arrived at one of his most successful circuits having won 8 times previously in Budapest and even had Turn 2 named after him this weekend. The seven-time world champion is nine points clear of Russell in P2 in the standings after his former teammate, who suffered a nightmare start at the Hungaroring, eventually recovered to P7.

As for the Constructors’ Standings, Mercedes maintain their lead in the title fight after securing 9 wins from the opening 11 rounds of F1 2026, but it was a strong points haul for their rivals following the action in Budapest.

Mercedes lead at the top of the standings on 379 points, with Ferrari trailing on 307. It was a helpful points boost for third-placed McLaren following Norris' victory - the papaya team sit on 220 points - but did suffer a DNF through Oscar Piastri's gearbox issue.
