Lewis Hamilton is not undergoing a successful phase in his F1 career at the moment, and former F1 supremo Bernie Ecclestone questions Ferrari's decision to sign the Briton. Currently the 7-time world champion has hit a profound dip in form, being unable to make it to Q3 in the last two F1 race weekends, whilst teammate Charles Leclerc took a P3 and a pole position.
His last Q2 exit prompted comments of disillusion, branding himself
“useless,” calling for Ferrari to swap drivers and casting doubt over his return from the summer break when racing resumes at Zandvoort, hinting at a potential F1 retirement altogether.

Ecclestone questions Ferrari's hiring of Hamilton
Ecclestone has already voiced that Hamilton should retire at once from the sport. Now the former head of F1 doesn’t think Ferrari made the best of choices. “I am not sure that taking Lewis [Hamilton] was the right decision.
“Lewis is obviously talented, but a little bit political,” added the businessman.
Nevertheless, there is a caveat: in the political regard Hamilton and Ferrari share something in common, at least according to Ecclestone, who brands the politicking of both parties as 'typical.'
Ecclestone, though, does not rule out a potential Hamilton revival, which he believes could only be good for both the iconic driver and team pairing.
“Which is typical for Ferrari and typical for him. But he could come to life again which would be good for him and good for Ferrari.”
