Dutch Steward Natalie Corsmit will make her debut at the Canadian Grand Prix. She will be present as a steward for four Grands Prix this year. However, her debut comes at a pivotal time for Max Verstappen.
In the upcoming Formula 1 race, Corsmit will be a steward at the Canadian Grand Prix. Alongside that, she will also be active at the Singapore and Mexican Grands Prix. This comes as a nice promotion for her, even if it does come at a coincidental time.
It is noteworthy that the choice for her debut was purely coincidental, and the fact that Verstappen is close to a race ban does not take away from this monumental moment in her career. The FIA remains bipartisan and is an independent team.

Verstappen could face suspension

Should Verstappen receive one more penalty point at the Canadian or Austrian Grands Prix, he will face a race ban. This is because he would have reached the limit of 12 penalty points. The last driver to serve a race ban was Kevin Magnussen.
Corsmit is the granddaughter of former Formula 1 steward and race director John Corsmit and has been involved in the sport for twenty years. Speaking to Motorsport.com, she explains how proud she is to be promoted this year for a number of races. "Ever since I got to accompany my grandfather to Formula 1 as a child, I wanted this. That it's actually happening now feels very good," said the Dutch steward, who we will soon see in action (behind the scenes).
She was also active in Zandvoort, although not an official debut. Here she was involved on behalf of the KNAF, where annually a Dutch steward is active.

Women in motorsport

Formula 1 is still a 'man's world', but with the addition of Corsmit, another woman with high authority within the FIA and the elite class joins. On behalf of GPBlog, we congratulate Corsmit on her new opportunities and appreciate that the sport evolves with the current world status.
