Christian Horner believes that the drivers' championship battle between
Max Verstappen and
Lando Norris will go down to the final Grand Prix in Abu Dhabi, playing out in a very similar scenario to the 2021 season.
Horner expects Red Bull to "fight hard" against charging McLaren
Unlike the 2022 and 2023 championship titles that Verstappen was able to win with many races remaining in the season, the Red Bull team principal believes this season will go down to the wire. Since the
Miami Grand Prix,
McLaren have been the team to beat on the grid, now leading the constructors' championship, as well as slowly closing the gap to Verstappen in the drivers' championship with Norris.
Speaking in the paddock after Norris' dominant victory at the
Marina Bay Street Circuit, Horner said:
"I think that we're gonna fight all the way to the end of the championship. We’re 52 points ahead with six races to go. But a lot of races, a lot of points on the board. There’s a lot of racing still to happen, and we'll be fighting hard through the next triple header. And then the final triple-header after that."Red Bull are still working hard to make the RB20 faster, and the Austrian team expects Verstappen to have more updates on his car for the
United States Grand Prix, winning the last three races in Austin, Texas
"Probably hasn’t been finalised yet, so there’s a lot of information that is coming out of these events that will influence what's going on in the car in Austin. So we got a lot of useful information out of the last two races, but they're very, very different venues to the sweeping curves of Austin, Mexico, and Brazil is a different one again. It will be a different one," concluded the Red Bull team boss.
