“I love Spa and love the car, but have yet to experience it on full tanks. That will be interesting.”

The former F1 driver and current commentator will compete in this weekend’s Spa Six Hours, driving a Ford GT40 alongside his son Alex Brundle - F1TV pundit - and Gary Pearson.
The Spa Six Hours is an endurance race for pre-1966 specification GTP, GT, and touring cars.

Brundle, who last raced at the Goodwood Revival, will make his debut in the event but is no stranger to racing alongside Alex.
“I just fancied driving Alex’s GT40 with him,” Brundle told Autosport. “Even on GP weekends we don’t see much of each other, so it’s a rare opportunity for a father and son weekend. Me and Al did Le Mans together in 2012 and we’ve raced together in Jaguar E-types, so it’ll be fun.”
Brundle only recently got familiar with the car, an FIA HTP-compliant GT40 reproduction built by Brundle Jr and Pearson. “I hadn’t driven the GT40 until a test session at Silverstone just before the Festival.
"I wanted to see whether I liked it, and I did, so we decided to do Spa,” he said. He also stressed that he has no specific result in mind. “I love Spa and love the car, but have yet to experience it on full tanks. That will be interesting.”

Even in a historic race, Brundle noted that variables like fuel pumps can make a big difference.
“Strangely, the biggest lottery is still the fuel pumps. Alex lost two laps last year but says a Lotus Elan could win if it’s wet,” he added.
Brundle’s return is thus less about chasing after wins and more about enjoying racing with his son and revisiting a track he loves.
