Brown loses to Verstappen: 'I don't know if there was more in it'

McLaren thought they had secretly secured the pole for the British Grand Prix until Max Verstappen jumped to first place like a jack-in-the-box. Zak Brown, the CEO of McLaren, felt his Dutch opponent rightfully earned that spot.
"Max did a fantastic lap," said the American to F1 TV. "He was never out of the question. A little surprised Ferrari's not further up. But that being said, all the top five cars were within a tenth. George obviously put in a great lap."

Brown Still Believes in a McLaren Victory

Regarding his own drivers, Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri, Brown was satisfied. But taking pole away from Verstappen? "Both our guys did a little bit of mistakes there on the last run, but I'm not sure there was much left in it. So it should be an exciting race tomorrow."
Brown expects the drivers in the top five to not give each other an inch during Sunday's Grand Prix. "I think all top five cars are kind of at the same race pace so track position and strategy on pit stops whether it's a one or two and or whether we get some weather tomorrow which I think there's a chance of."
