Max Verstappen is someone with experience when it comes to winning championships. The Dutchman has been crowned F1 World Champion four times so far. Oliver Rowland became the World Champion in Formula E this weekend. The Brit revealed to Motorsport Week that he had contact with the Red Bull Racing driver on Sunday afternoon before the race. There are still two ePrix to be run in the current Formula E season – both in London, at the end of this month – but Rowland is already the World Champion. Second-place Pascal Wehrlein can no longer catch up with the Brit, after the latter finished P4 during the 14th round of the championship in Berlin. With a total of 184 points, the Nissan Formula E team driver crowned himself champion.
Rowland received support from Verstappen
However, Rowland had a difficult first race of the weekend. He did not finish. The newly-crowned world champion revealed that Verstappen reached out to him on Saturday night.
“He messaged me last night and told me to keep my chin up and score points. Which meant a lot, because I was pretty disappointed in myself, but it was a really nice touch of him to message me, and he’s a great guy."
Verstappen is having a tougher time in
Formula 1 at the moment. Unlike Rowland, the Dutchman, by his own admission, is no longer in contention for the world title. The McLaren drivers have an advantage both in the standings and in terms of the pace of their cars.
Verstappen is in third place in the drivers' standings, while George Russell is also fully in contention for a top-three position.
