McLaren racing director Eric Boullier admits the car is suffering from too much drag but says it is not the sole reason they are the slowest Renault-powered team.
Boullier, believes his teams performance has been worse in qualifying.
"This is obviously one of the issues. Our top speed is not the best one because we are bottom in the ranking." Boullier said.
"But it’s not the only one, it’s not as simple as this. If it was just a question of drag in the car it would be easy to fix. We have to address fundamentally all the aspects of the car to make sure we know we are where we should be."
Neither McLaren driver has made it to Q3 so far this season. But Fernando Alonso finds himself 6th in the driver's championship, with teammate Stoffel Vandoorne in 11th.
