Christian Horner has been immediately fired by Red Bull. The Brit did not receive a reason for the dismissal. According to Formula 1 analyst Jeroen Bleekemolen, this was a strategic choice. On Wednesday morning, it was announced that Christian Horner would have to immediately step down from his duties as CEO and team principal. The Brit learned this news himself on Tuesday and was allowed to share it with the Red Bull staff at the factory on Wednesday.
Formula 1 analyst Jeroen Bleekemolen also concludes that the two could not really get along. "Jos did not have a good relationship with Horner, too much was going on. With Horner's departure, something has now been resolved," he said at the NOS.
Jos Verstappen also received support from
Ralf Schumacher earlier. The German said he was on a so-called black list with Horner, which is why he did not want to talk to him. According to Schumacher, the Brit is a difficult person who cannot handle criticism.
Is Horner's departure a strategic move towards Verstappen?
GPblog had already reported that it was important for Verstappen's camp that Horner's power was reduced. This could have an impact on the decision to stay with the Austrian racing team. Improving sporting performance is another condition.
Bleekemolen also suggests that the decision to dismiss Horner could very well be for retaining Verstappen. "It could very well be a strategic choice to part ways with Horner."
“Red Bull Racing wants to continue with Verstappen and this decision might just show that things are going to change. And that you want to adjust matters to his wishes,” according to Bleekemolen.
